CATALYZING INSIGHTS: EXPERT TALKS ON ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE IN INDIA

Dr. Shraddha Karve, a Research Faculty Fellow and recipient of the INSA Young Scientist Award, explores the intersection of oxidative stress and antibiotic resistance. Her groundbreaking work reveals that bacteria exposed to stressors like oxidative stress develop antibiotic resistance, even without direct exposure. Drawing parallels to human evolution, Dr. Karve notes, "It is not Evolution to a particular thing but its idea of being evolvable. Right now, you throw antibiotics at them, yes, they are better at it. You throw heavy metals at them, they are better at it." With a Ph.D. from IISER, Pune, her research delves into the mechanisms behind antibiotic resistance.
